To the editor,
Unfortunately, many people are not aware of what’s going on within the community and will vote strictly on their party affiliation even when they may agree with 1 or 2 issues with their opposing party. So if you’re a die-hard Republican, you will most likely just vote Republican even though you may not have heard anything from either candidate. That’s unproductive and doesn’t move us forward.
Party affiliation should be irrelevant at the local level. Instead, the focus should be on community issues and voters should vote for the best candidates for the job. Issues such as budgets, roads, snow and tree removal, zoning, water and sewer, safety, garbage pickup, parks and recreation, business and economic development. These are the issues we are faced with as a community… not healthcare, climate change, abortion, gun control, border wall, etc. We want board members who can best manage a town at all levels with 100% transparent. We want board members who have a vision for Mahopac, think deeply to resolve issues, embrace diversity and respect different perspectives, but most of all we want board members with integrity.
Change is good. Be smart, vote smart….be the change.
