MAHOPAC, N.Y. - Many needy children will be able to snuggle up in some warm pajamas this winter thanks to the staff, children and parents at Pine Grove Country Day School.
The preschool held its annual pajama drive last month. On Dec. 19, a celebratory Pajama Day took place at all five Pine Grove locations in support of the Pajama Program, a nonprofit organization that collects pajamas and books for needy children.
With some help from the Mahopac Public Library and Family and Friends, the school was able to collect 248 pajamas and make a significant donation of books and PJs to the program.
Pine Grove has participated in the program for the past 18 years. Teacher Jeannie Licata started it with her family and friends and staff, but it was soon opened to parents and their children and eventually the community at large.
The Pajama Program’s mission is to “provide comfort and love in the way of new pajamas and books to needy children and children waiting for a permanent home.” To learn more about the Pajama Program, visit pajamaprogram.org.
