MAHOPAC, N.Y. - Members of the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department held a brief but somber ceremony on Friday, Sept. 11, to commemorate Patriots Day, the day America pays tribute to victims of 9-11 at the twin towers, the Pentagon and the fields of Pennsylvania.

At the ceremony at the firehouse, held at the department’s monument at the corner of Route 6 and Croton Falls Road, there were two moments of silence; one at 8:46 a.m., when the first plane hit the north tower, and another at 9:03 a.m., when the second plane struck the south tower.

MVFD Fire Commissioner George Jones led the ceremony and at the conclusion, members of the fire department placed a wreath at the gates of the 9-11 memorial.
