MAHOPAC, N.Y. - Carmel police have arrested a man and charged him with several felonies related to the robbery of the Video Games Plus on Clark Place on Dec. 1.
Police said they arrested Anthony Pesiri, 43, of Mahopac, on Friday, Jan. 4, and charged him with third-degree robbery, assault with a weapon, and first-degree criminal use of a firearm, all Class B felonies; and petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor.
Police allege that Pesiri went into the store and displayed what appeared to be a black handgun and pointed it toward the clerk demanding that he open the cash register. When the clerk refused, police say that Pesiri struck him several times in the head and upper arm with the gun causing lacerations and bruising. Pesiri is alleged to have then grabbed the register and fled the store carrying it.
After an extensive investigation by the detectives, including interviews with the victim and witnesses, police said they were able to identify the vehicle used to flee the scene, and subsequently identify Pesiri person of interest. Detectives later executed a search warrant and recovered evidence related to the robbery.
The defendant was arrested after Carmel police officers conducted a felony traffic stop. Pesiri was brought to the Carmel police headquarters for processing without incident. He was remanded to the Putnam County correctional facility on $100,000 bail.
Detectives with the Carmel Police Department said they have linked Pesiri to other larcenies, grand larcenies and criminal acts that he is alleged to have committed in the town of Carmel.
The police department is asking that anyone who may have information in connection with this incident or other crimes to contact the Detective Division at Carmel Police Department 845-628-1300. All calls will be kept confidential.
