MAHOPAC, N.Y. – Senior Chloe Lee is a member of the Mahopac gymnastics team.

How old were you when you started in gymnastics and what got you started?

I was about 6 years old when I began gymnastics, I don’t recall exactly the reason for my interest given I was so young, but I vaguely remember 6-year-old me thinking it was cool.

What is your favorite thing about being on the Mahopac gymnastics team?

My favorite thing about being on the Mahopac gymnastics team is how much we support one another. Over the past six years, I have been on the team it has only become more noticeable how much we push one another towards becoming the best we can be. It’s like Mr. Collins say: It is teamwork that’s important. When one of our teammates is having a bad day, there’s always another one that will be there pick them up. I love helping someone with a new skill and see them jumping and screaming because they finally got it.

What are your individual and team goals for the rest of the season?

The team goals are the same every year: qualify as a team for the divisionals competition, as well as the sectionals championship, and qualify as many girls as possible for the states competition. As for individual goals, I would like to try to practice my double back tuck dismount off bars for the divisionals competition in preparation for the following meets. I also hope that I qualify for uneven bars once again for my last year in high school.

What is your favorite gymnastics event?

Uneven bars is my favorite event, although it wasn’t always. (Beam used to be my favorite)

Who has been your biggest role model over the years and what have you learned from them?

I’d say that my mom is my biggest role model over the years. She’s taught me to put in 110 percent into everything and that you can’t get anywhere you want without working hard for it.

Do you know what you want to study in college? If yes, what are you planning on studying and why?

I want to major in chemistry in college because I love the subject as crazy as that may sound.

What music do you listen to before a match?

What music I listen to before a meet usually depends on how I’m feeling that day. So, it varies from pop to R&B to rap to indie, or a mix of them all at the same time.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

If I had one superpower, I’d like to slow time because I often find myself needing more time to do everything I have to do.

What is something about yourself people would be surprised to learn?

As much as I love gymnastics and competing varsity on the Mahopac team, I actually don’t regret quitting my club team at the end of my sophomore year.

What is your favorite place to visit on vacation and why?

My favorite place to visit on vacation would probably be Turks and Caicos because the beaches there are like no other.

What is your favorite place to eat locally?

My favorite place to eat locally is Crossroads.

What’s the go-to app on your phone and why?

The go-to app on my phone is most definitely Spotify because I would honestly be lost and missing out on an entire world without music.

For a young athlete growing up in the Mahopac school district, what would you tell them about the experience of being part of the gymnastics team and why should they go out for the team?

Being a part of the gymnastics team is like being a part of a second family. Like I mentioned earlier, the girls are so supportive and we’re always there for one another. Every year, everyone can’t wait for the season to begin, but once it starts it goes by so fast. Writing this I’m suddenly realizing how we’re so close to the end and how much I’m going to miss it. But again, another quote from Mr. Collins, “Once you’re on the team, you’re on the team for life.”
