MAHOPAC, N.Y. – Mahopac gymnasts are used to balancing, so it should come as no surprise that the teenagers were able to excel both academically and athletically this winter.
As a result of their hard work in the classroom, the Mahopac gymnastics team was named a Scholar-Athlete team by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. That means that the grade-point averages for 75 percent of the team’s roster averaged out to be 90 or above.
They also scored high marks on the mat, with seven gymnasts earning All-League honors: Jamison Castrataro, Nicole Giannetta, Lia Graap, Kaylie Ann Hammond, Juliette LeBlanc, Chloe Lee, and Rachel Romero.
Four more were named All Section: Castrataro, Giannetta, Graap, and Lee.
Castrataro, Giannetta, Graap, and Lee were also named All-Americans by the National High School Gymnastics Association.
Lastly, Lee received the Section One Scholar Gymnast Award, which recognizes Section One senior gymnasts who excel in academics, athletics and community.
