OSSINING, N.Y. – The Mahopac High School wrestling team took a second place at last Saturday’s Ossining Dual Meet Tournament, falling only to the champion Foxes of Fox Lane High.

Those two teams dominated the tournament.

The Indians opened with a 40-39 win over Coxsackie, then followed by easily beating Byram Hills, 63-15. Next came a 48-42 win over Pleasantville, before the Indians beat Arlington B, 63-17. Mahopac lost to Fox Lane, 58-19, to place second.

“We wrestled great,” said Mahopac Head Coach Steve Tornambe. “The kids really came in focused. Sean Gallagher and AJ Corbelli filled in, and both did well. It just shows the depth of our team. Joe Ramirez and Chris Morris, both freshman, did a good job for us.”

Senior Tyler Roa and sophomore Angelo Centrone both went 5-0 on the day, Ryan Kick was 4-1. Aidan Muldoon went 4-1, Larry Nardone went 4–3 and Londrim Hasanramaj went 3–2, losing to a pair of sectional champs.

Mahopac failed to advance in the Section 1 Dual Meet Tournament, after beating Ossining, and losing to Fox Lane last Wednesday at Fox Lane. The Indians needed to beat both teams in order to advance in the tournament.

Centrone, Nardecchia, Roa and Hasanramaj—all four Mahopac captains—went 2-0.

“All four of them looked great,” Tornambe said. “They’re captains for a reason. Their leadership shows on and off the mat.

“Ryan and Aiden also both wrestled really well in their matches,” the coach added. “I’m an Ossining guy, so we really wanted to beat Ossining, and we wrestled really well against them. But Fox Lane is a powerhouse.”

Next up for the Indians is the Yorktown Dual Meet Tournament Saturday at Yorktown High School.
