Infinity Sock (Apple-Eye Productions, $19.99) is a new DVD/CD from the popular kids’ character, Gustafer Yellowgold (http://www.gustaferyellowgold.com). Created by illustrator/songwriter Morgan Taylor, Gustafer is a friendly alien creature who came to Earth from the Sun and now lives in a somewhat psychedelic version of the Minnesota woods.
Gustafer’s adventures are chronicled on the DVD — or more accurately, a “musical moving book” — with ten creatively silly songs like “Sock of Ages,” “Snake Proms,” and “Cheddar.” The bright vignettes are full of humor and definitely trippy. Older kids can sing along with the lyrics posted on the screen, either in regular or karaoke viewing mode.
Bonus features on the Infinity Sock DVD include guitar lessons with Morgan Taylor, which are not for novice players but still very insightful. The catchy, mostly upbeat songs are also included on a separate soundtrack CD, which is great for bringing along in the car. Parents will enjoy the charming music, especially with guest artists such as Wilco’s John Stirratt and Pat Sansone along for the mellow ride.
