MAPLEWOOD, NJ – Local school children will be performing “Disney's Little Mermaid Jr.” to raise money for Hurricane Sandy Relief this weekend at Morrow Memorial United Methodist Church.

Seventy talented students from Maplewood, South Orange and Millburn, who are entering 4th to 8th grade, have put together this show in an effort to help those in need.  The group participated in Morrow’s Musical Theater Camp (MMTC) with Director Shona Roebuck.

“This is the fourth year we have held the camp at Morrow Memorial,” Roebuck said.  “The kids are great and this is going to be a really fun show.”

The cast visited Highlands, NJ, on Wednesday to support the volunteers and visit with homeowners whose homes were destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.  Roebuck said the trip really had an impact on the children, and reinforced the desire to help by raising funds with this show.

There is a $10 suggested donation, but people are encouraged to give as much as they can.  Last year’s production by the MMTC raised more than $6,000 for charity.  This year’s donations will go to “A Future with Hope” campaign, supporting Sandy relief work in New Jersey.

Show dates are:

Saturday, August 17 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.;

Sunday, August 18 at 2 p.m.

All performances will take place in the sanctuary of Morrow Memorial United Methodist Church at 600 Ridgewood Road, Maplewood.
