NEWARK- A Maplewood man was arrested Thursday morning on child pornography charges.
Kenneth Mashel, 55, of Maplewood, has been charged with one count of possession of child pornography and one count of distribution of child pornography, according to a press release by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police seized two computers from Mashel’s house after executing a search warrant around 6:30 a.m.
According to the press release, Mashel is alleged to have distributed and possessed multiple images of naked prepubescent girls engaged in sexual acts. He was released from custody after his arrest.
If convicted of all charges, Mashel faces 10 years in jail on the second degree distribution of child pornography charge and 18 months on the fourth degree possession of child pornography charge.
The investigation was handled by the Cyber Crimes Unit of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office with assistance from the FBI and Maplewood Police Department.
