MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The Maplewood Township Committee proposed an idea at its meeting Tuesday night to change all one-hour parking to two-hour parking on Maplewood Ave to eliminate confusion.

Mayor Vic DeLuca said the changes would make the parking more uniform and easier to monitor and enforce the rules.

Maser Consulting conducted a parking study last year and the Maplewood Village Alliance used the study to base their suggestions.

Instead of splitting hours between one-hour parking to four-hour parking, DeLuca said that “two-hour parking is smart” because of the nature of the area. He said that one hour just not enough time to enjoy a bite to eat or run into a store. He said by eliminating all one-hour parking and standardizing three times to park - two, three or four hours - in various parking lots downtown would encourage people to spend more time in town and reduce confusion.

They are now working with township engineerings to draft an ordinance that will be discussed in a future meeting.
