MILLBURN, NJ – Runners, take your marks. It’s less than two weeks away from the 34th annual Chamber of Commerce President’s Cup Night Race.
On Monday, June 17 at 8 PM, the race-goers and local residents will gather at Charlie Brown’s Fresh Grill for pre- and post-race festivities to socialize with friends and run a 5k that follows a route along Essex St. and Millburn Avenue. Each year, the event attracts more than 1,500 runners, according to the Millburn Chamber of Commerce.
The Sneaker Factory is responsible for organizing the USA Track & Field (USATF) run since 1980. The coveted cup was named after Berkeley Federal Bank’s then-president, Richard Gartenberg, who first approached the Sneaker Factory to coordinate the event.
Prizes from Saucony are awarded to the first three winners in each of the 13 age categories, as well as first place winners in the Millburn-Short Hills resident category. The first six USATF-NJ members to the finish line also receive prize money. First place overall wins the Investors Bank Cup.
There are not only events for residents and serious runners, but for children, too. The Kids Fun Run, held prior to the race, begins at 7:30 PM on Essex Street adjacent from the Charlie Brown’s parking lot. Priddy Learning Academy will provide medals to all the participants.
There are several corporate sponsors this year, with Investors Bank providing major support for the race. Other sponsors include the Sneaker Factory, the Mall at Short Hills and Charlie Brown’s Fresh Grill Restaurant, Samuel Adams and Saucony, among others. Many local businesses also have a hand in regularly sponsoring the race.
The President’s Cup Night Race is a fun way to bring the community together. To register for the race, visit The Sneaker Factory at 308 Millburn Avenue or apply online at www.compuscore.com.
