SPRINGFIELD, NJ - While it only started two years ago, Reliant Power Washing and Gutter Cleaning of Springfield is growing. Since brothers Michael and Jim Lawlor created the business, it has tripled in size.

After Jim was laid off from Verizon he and Michael began to talk about working together.  Michael, who is a personal trainer and massage therapist part time, was looking for something new to do.

“I wanted to have my own company,” he said.

So with his brother’s degree in management and his in marketing, they created Reliant Power Washing and Gutter Cleaning. Over the years, he has done some power washing and gutter cleaning on the side and said it was always something he wanted to do.

Their services include exterior house and deck washing, patios, sidewalks and driveways, gutter whitening and cleaning, window cleaning, awnings, outdoor furniture, roof cleaning and gutter guard installation.

They also set up Christmas lights for people, as well. Because displaying holiday decorations can be dangerous, many people call them, he said. Furthermore, if any of them break or bulbs go out, they come to fix them.

“I just saw it as an opportunity,” Lawlor said. “I think it’s fun. I like to be doing something different all the time.”

While the holidays are around the corner, it is also gutter cleaning season. Lawlor stressed they are ready to clean people’s gutters and they believe in doing what is convenient for the customer.

“We are your local friendly neighborhood gutter cleaners and unlike some other gutter cleaning companies, we do not try to force customers into any contract to clean your gutters,” he said. “We never just stop by to clean gutters when it is convenient for us. At Relliant 'the customer comes first.'"

Lawlor said the company has been extremely successful, done well on Angie’s List and obtained many of its clients through referrals.  While they began the company with just the two of them, they now have two employees, are hiring seasonal workers and are in the process of hiring additional employees.

Their goals are to keep customers returning and to do a quality job, he said. Their slogan “service you can rely on” reflects directly on the leadership of Lawlor and his brother, who pride themselves on being the “anti-contractor,” he said.

The hardest part about running a business is keeping the integrity of the company, he said. However, he does enjoy being his own boss because the effort he and his employees put in always puts a smile on a customer’s face, he said.

“I think it’s exceeded our expectations,” he said. “We believe in giving people top service.”
