New York Voices, who celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2009, is the Grammy Award–winning vocal group renowned for their excellence in the art of group jazz singing. They’ve learned from the best of their predecessors (Lambert Hendricks & Ross, Manhattan Transfer) and taken this singular genre to new heights, infusing their material with pop, R&B, and Brazilian shadings.

The songs of NYV’s most recent CD, A Day Like This (MCG Jazz), range from Laura Nyro’s “Stoned Soul Picnic” to the Great American Songbook classics “Darn That Dream” and “In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning,” with guest appearances by saxophonist Paquito D’Rivera and vibraphonist Dave Samuels. New York Voices, says The Boston Herald, “lives up to its reputation as the most exciting vocal ensemble in current jazz.” Founded in 1987 by Darmon Meader at Ithaca College in NY, New York Voices originally was part of an invitational alumni group formed to tour the European Jazz Festivals in the summer of '86.

As a result of this exciting experience, the idea of forming a professional ensemble was born. In 1989 the singers signed their first record contract with GRP Records and released a self-titled debut album, New York Voices. The ensemble received rave notices and quickly received domestic and international recognition in the Jazz World. NYV has traveled the globe with their elegant music, amazing audiences the world over with their impeccable voices and stunning arrangements. “Live, they’re just as impressive to witness,” says Mathew Lurrie of Time Out Chicago. “We dare say there may be no better way to understand the wit and wink of jazz harmony than via these Voices.”
