MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ―CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, NJ, has opened the Statesir Memory Care Center at Applewood, a dementia and Alzheimer’s center featuring individualized, 24/7 care under the supervision of licensed practical nurses.

This new center is the latest addition to CentraState’s senior living and services portfolio that includes independent and assisted living, short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care, as well as medical care and programs designed to provide care for every age and condition.

“As the population ages, many families are looking for residential alternatives that will provide the appropriate level of care to their loved ones who have memory loss, Alzheimer's or related dementia,” said CentraState President & CEO John T. Gribbin. “We know that one in 10 people age 65 and older has Alzheimer’s or dementia, that almost two-thirds are women, and that every 65 seconds someone in the United States develops dementia.”

The Statesir Memory Care Center will provide individualized therapeutic and recreational activities for residents under the care of licensed practical nurses. Serving up to 11 residents, this smaller, personalized setting provides individualized program development for each resident based upon their current abilities, medical history and aspirations. Each will have a private room with a full bathroom and kitchenette.

“We designed the environment to be as home-like and comfortable as possible, while also providing state-of-the art technology and care that will allow are residents to thrive,” said Applewood Executive Director Keith Grady. “Every detail of the facility has been thoughtfully planned -- from the color of the dinnerware and walls to the personally decorated doorways that provide important memory cues to residents.”

The Center’s Thrive© program is a six pronged lifestyle roadmap designed to collectively nurture mind, body and spirit. The Center’s staff partners with each resident to build a personalized engagement plan that addresses the interests and capabilities of the resident.

The center also features a full-service dining room serving three meals a day, areas for recreation and socialization, and a secure outside courtyard with walking paths and seating area.

The unique iN2L computer based platform provides a variety of activities for recreation, social connection, memory care engagement and therapy.

The Center is named in honor of Applewood residents John and Audrey Statesir, whose donation in honor of John’s mother helped make this new center possible.
