Rumson, NJ (July 24, 2019) – Teaching girls the life skill of golf this summer is one of many programs supported by the recent charity golf outing hosted by Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore at the fairways of Rumson Country Club.

The Girl Scout Golf Classic took place on June 25 and raised more than $89,000 to further the mission of Girl Scouts to build girls of courage, confidence and character who will make the world a better place.

“We are truly grateful for our sponsors and golfers whose generosity will make a difference in our efforts to provide opportunities for girls from all backgrounds to develop leadership skills,” said Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore CEO Eileen Higgins.

Fifty sponsors and 82 golfers supported the charity golf outing, which included friendly competitions for prizes and a dinner party afterward at the club’s Riverhouse.

Higgins noted that proceeds from the event will help fund a new golf camp for Girls Scouts the week of July 29 at Amity Acres Day Camp in Waretown and the week of August 12 at Sacajawea Day Camp in Farmingdale. Girls in grades 2-5 are invited to attend and learn the basics of golf at the specialty camp developed in partnership with The First Tee of the Jersey Shore.

The golf charity and other fundraising events held throughout the year make it possible for Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore to provide access to girls in Monmouth and Ocean counties to over 300 programs and experiences including Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), financial literacy, outdoor adventures and entrepreneurship, Higgins said.

Serving as honorary chairperson of the outing was Virginia “Ginny” Haines, director of the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and committee co-chairs were Nina Anuario, senior vice president at OceanFirst Bank and member of the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore Board of Directors, and Victoria Magliacane, market executive at Investors Bank.
