TRENTON, N.J. – Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso opposed expanding the vote-by-mail law from the floor of the Assembly yesterday, saying it sets the stage for voter fraud and places an undue burden on county clerks. The Legislature was called back into session this week to vote on S4069 so it could pass before county clerks start mailing vote-by-mail ballots on September 21.
“We were called back for a voting session to expand a law that increases access to fraudulent voting. There is nothing in this expanded version that deters fraudulent voting. We should at least increase the penalties,” said (DiMaso R-Monmouth). “We already know this causes confusion at the polls and further, county clerks will have much more unnecessary work on their plates. We are automatically sending voters mail-in ballots, completely ignoring their intentions, and welcoming voter fraud.”
