BELMAR/LAKE COMO, NJ — As the traditional warm-up to the Belmar/ Lake Como St. Patrick’s Day Parade, five fundraisers remain to benefit the much-anticipated procession, which this year will be held on Sunday, March 1.
This upcoming Saturday, January 18 from 7 to 11 p.m., the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh in Old Bridge will host the festivities, as it also celebrates the selection of former club president Scott Fitzgerald as the grand marshal of this year’s parade.
The cost is $20 and will feature a hot and cold buffet, select tap beverages and live entertainment, including a performance by its own pipes and drums corps. The club is located at 15 Oak Street, Old Bridge.
Here are the Sunday fundraisers leading up to the marquee march:
- January 26: Bar Anticipation with music by The Snakes, 703 16th Avenue, Lake Como.
- February 9: Marina Grille, 905 Route 35, Belmar.
- February 16: Boathouse Bar & Grill, 1309 Main Street, Belmar.
- February 23: Friendly Sons of Shillelagh of the Jersey Shore, 815 16th Avenue, Belmar.
Each of these events will be held from 2 to 6 p.m., offering a hot and cold buffet and entertainment, as well the traditional playing of the pipes and drums. Cost is $15.
All proceeds raised will help cover the cost of the March 1 parade, which has grown into one of the largest and best attended parades in New Jersey with nearly 6,000 marchers, more than 40 bands and some 200,000 spectators.
On Saturday, February 29, an Investiture Mass for grand marshal Scott Fitzgerald and deputy grand marshal Eileen Donnelly Biennas will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Rose Church, 601 Seventh Avenue, Belmar. It will be followed by a luncheon at Doolan’s Shore Club, 500 Route 71, Spring Lake Heights. The donation is $35.
Belmar/Lake Como St. Patrick’s Day Parade will kick off at 12:30 p.m. on March 1 in Lake Como at 22nd Avenue and Main Street, where marchers will assemble around the lake. From there, the parade will continue north on Main Street, crossing into Belmar and proceeding to Sixth Avenue.
