MIDDLETOWN, NJ: The Township of Middletown has a lot to be proud about, and The Middletown Arts Center (MAC) is often referred to as "The Gem of Middletown."  With its intimate theater, the gallery, dance, multi-purpose and art rooms, complimented by the friendly management, the MAC is the perfect venue for a community celebration.

On Sunday, December 5th, many community members, Police, Fire and First Aid, Members of the Township Committee, MAC Staff and Volunteers.... All gathered on the back lawn of the MAC, as the official tree lighting took place. Shortly after 5:00 pm, just like that in a 10-second count down, the tree was lit! Next there was excitement from the fire truck sirens as Santa Claus himself was escorted to the MAC, much to the delight of the cheering children. That was just the beginning though!

The crowd of approximately 300 then moved into the MAC, filling the theater for a Christmas Caroling Concert with local youth. At the same time, the art gallery was set up as Santa's Workshop, where children could choose to make a variety of different crafts and trinkets including personalized Christmas ornaments.

Santa was seated in the corner of the gallery by the tree, and there was a steady line throughout the evening as  every child had an opportunity to chat with Santa, and get their photo taken. MAC Board Members were on site to volunteer their time, serving hot chocolate and other concessions. Executive Director of The Middletown Arts Center, Maggie O'Brien commented, "This evening is a great example of the wonderful community spirit we have here in Middletown. The MAC was designed as a community hub and tonight demonstrates the success of that intention."    Note: Find out more information about the MAC!
