Mary (Matina) Mavrookas, 90, of Colts Neck passed away on Monday, September 6th. Born in Tripoli, Greece she came to the U.S. in 1958, and settled in Perth Amboy before settling in Colts Neck 47 years ago.

Mary (Matina) Mavrookas, 90, of Colts Neck passed away on Monday, September 6th. Born in Tripoli, Greece she came to the U.S. in 1958, and settled in Perth Amboy before settling in Colts Neck 47 years ago.

She was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy for 63 years. She volunteered her time, baking cookies and desserts for the church festival as a member of the Philoptochos. Matina was honored as Mother of the Year in 2016. She was the matriarch to her 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Matina was predeceased by her husband George Mavrookas.

She is survived by her sons Peter, Dino and Louie Mavrookas, daughters Stella Kolb, Kateina Ganiaris, and Fay Gianaris, and by her 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, NJ on Friday, September 10th from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered Saturday, September 11th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 41-47 Wisteria Street, Perth Amboy, N.J. Interment will then follow at the Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel.
