KEYPORT, NJ: Kevin Kelly has it. He has the passion it takes to be successful in business. At the very young age of 22-years-old, Kelly recently opened up Kevin Kelly Salon, at 362 Broadway, in Keyport, NJ. It's not his first location though. He started out even younger with a small salon in Union Beach, when he was 18, then in 2019, at age 20, Kelly opened up a small salon in Hazlet, on route 35, but quickly outgrew that location, needing more space to accommodate his growing client base.
"I started out very young and I always knew this is what I was meant to do. As early as seven years old I would watch YouTube videos on how to style and cut hair. That's how and when it really all began."
Kelly grew up in Union Beach, graduated from Keyport High School, and went on to study hairstyling at Robert Fiance Beauty School, in Ocean. "During that time my mom and I decided to transform our garage into a salon, and that's when I started to build my clientele."
The new spacious salon in Keyport welcomes clients with a large farmhouse table as the centerpiece of the main room, attractive lighting includes a mix of crystal chandeliers with a large unique feather chandelier above the table, surrounded with Lucite chairs. There are floral nature-scapes on the walls, and the back wall is a hand painted design of freeform faces. The salon has cozy sitting areas with velvet covered and textured upholstered furniture in bright colors and art deco patterns.
Laura O. commented to TAPinto, "I love Kevin Kelly Salon. When I walk in I feel so good. Every stylist here goes above and beyond. They love working here, and it shows through in their work product. They cut and color my hair now, and I'm a big fan of their blowout packages. I buy four blowouts and I have three months to use them, and it's something that I now do regularly, and it's a real pick-me up. I get so many compliments on my hair!"
TAPinto had the opportunity to sit in the client chair for an awesome blowout (bought a 4 -pack and love it) and interview Kevin Kelly at his new beautiful Keyport salon.

JW: I love the decor in your new Kevin Kelly Salon, did you hire a decorator?
KK: No, we decorated everything. When we grew out of our smaller location, I knew exactly what I wanted our new space to look like. I sourced most of the new pieces and some of them moved over from our first location. I had a vision for the overall look and feel and the wall with the faces that everyone loves was inspired by a wall paper I found on West Elm and my grandmother actually created that wall freehand. She's very artistic, and I love it all the more because she created it for us, it's her original one-of-a-kind work of art. Pictured below is a sliver of the wall Kelly's grandmother created:

KK: HAIR HAIR HAIR !! I love doing hair ! I'm living the dream! Also I love shopping!
JW: How have you adjusted to this pandemic?
KK. We were of course shut down as were all hair salons. During the shut down I reached out to my clients and put together hair dye kits and dropped them off at their homes. It was important to me that I had open communication with my clients. They are family to me and I wanted them to keep feeling beautiful during the height of the pandemic. Now that we are open again of course we have safety measures in place, temperature checks, masks, hand sanitizer is readily available...
JW: What’s a perfect night out for you and a date or your friends/family?
KK: That's easy! Good food and LOTS of laughter!
JW: Thank you! It was so nice getting to know you better, and I will be back soon!! Click here for more information about Kevin Kelly Salon.
