The Belford Brewing Company was highlighted as business of the week by Middletown Township. So, TAPinto's Jessica Yurkow stopped in to check it out for herself and report back to TAPinto Middletown readers:
Jessica: The moment you step into the family-owned and run Belford Brewing Company, you feel like part of the family, too! I was greeted warmly at the door by one of the owners, Mike Enny. He gave me a quick look around their quaint space before showing me the outdoor seating area - a new addition in light of COVID-19 protocols.
"Masks are required when you are up and walking around," Kevin Enny, co-owner, told me, "but once you are seated, you can take it off to enjoy your beer."
Social distancing guidelines are in place, and this small business is making creative use of the newly added outdoor space, which they have a permit for through November 30.
Tables made from old-timey beer kegs and the fence crafted of repurposed pallets are quaint, rustic additions to the laid-back, home-town feel of this lovely little brewery.
"All of our customers are like family to us," said Mike. "During the pandemic, they supported us and kept us up and running while we were only able to offer pick-up." Speaking with Mike and Kevin, it was evident that they love what they do, and their delicious beer is proof!
Flights are not offered at this time, as a safety precaution against COVID-19, but full pours and half pours are available in disposable cups. And, of course, there are cans and growlers available to go!
I started with Honey Hudson; an ale made with local honey. It was sweet, smooth, and well-balanced, with just enough nuances of honey to live up to its name without being overpowering. For my second beer, I tried the Leonardville Lager, at the behest of a friendly local couple, Jeanette and Steve, with whom I struck up a conversation.
"We've known the owners for years; they are great people," said Steve, a Belford native who enjoys regular nights out at Belford Brewing with his wife, Jeanette. "This is a friendly, neighborhood place, where all the customers become friends." Their praise of the Leonardville Lager sold me on trying it, and it did not disappoint. It is a malty, crisp traditional lager, slightly sweet and with absolutely no bitterness to it, the perfect beer for newbies to the craft beer scene. If I were to come here with my father, a tried and true Budweiser man, this is the beer I would get for him!
I will be returning to Belford Brewing soon, for more great beer and great conversation with the staff and customers!
