MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ: On Saturday, September 28, 2019, over 200 attendees enjoyed a day to celebrate special needs children and their siblings, while sharing in the joy of fishing at Lake Julianna, at the Ponderosa Estates Farm in Millstone Township, NJ. “Making Smiles” was the theme for the 3rdAnnual “Kids Wish’n to go Fish’n” Outdoor Fun Day.
The goal of the fishing and outdoor fun day is to provide a day of happiness and appreciation for special needs children and their families. That goal was more than met with abundant smiles, laughter and great socializing for everyone.
For the third year in a row, Vito Cardinale, along with his family and friends hosted an event that they themselves look forward to all year. Guests are always treated like family, and as is custom there was plenty of food and fun surprises for everyone to enjoy.
There was plentiful catch and release fishing for newbies and those more experienced. Bait, barbless hooks, fishing rods, PHWFF casting, and assistance if needed was provided to all. For many of the children, it was a day to remember catching their first fish. It was a day of making priceless memories. Pat Hayek Felise commented, "Seeing the faces of the kids when they catch that first fish is so special. God Bless Vito Cardinale for all he does for our kids and veterans."
In addition to lake fishing, guests enjoyed hayrides, pumpkin picking, and environmental games by JCAA and NJ HOFNOD/Boating Education and Rescue.
Members of Cardinale’s team cooked and served food for everyone. Pizza, hamburgers, hotdogs, salad, cookies/cakes, and drinks were flying of the table as quick as they were making the food. Crystal Cardinale-Dukes, commented, “This is such a great experience for all of the kids. I love to see the excitement on their faces with a new found confidence that lessens the disability and creates new abilities.”
New Jersey State Police provided an awesome airboat for kids to view and explore. Youngsters asked a lot of questions about how the airboat operates and Troopers loaded the kids up with NJSP promotional items as they answered questions. Immediate Care provided a “Bumps and Boo Boo” booth and the kids loved collecting the giveaways they offered too.
Many organizations/businesses also contributed and came out to volunteer their time, New Jersey State Federation of Sportsmen Clubs, BEAR Environmental Educators, NJ State Police, Hamilton Station, Township, Millstone Fire Department, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Jersey Shore Chapter, Hero’s on the Water, The Reel Seat, Immediate Care, The Fisherman Magazine , JB's Diner, Monster Mini Golf, Press Communications, LLC, Bogan's Bait & Tackle, Gabriel Bait & Tackle CO., Jersey Hooker Outfitters, Betty & Nicks B & T, Gates Inlet B&T, The Tin Man, Castaways B&T, Pell’s Sport and Fish, Boating Education and Rescue, Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club Warrior Program, Jersey Shore Surfcasters, New Jersey Elks, Trout Unlimited, Newark Bait and Fly Casting Club, Hudson River Fisherman's Association, New Jersey Beach Buggy Association, and several Veteran organizations.
