I am very excited to announce that I have partnered with TAPinto Middletown, to further connect with the residents of Middletown and the surrounding communities. Each month, I’ll provide a recap of the previous month, important initiatives and upcoming events. I am honored to once again serve as Mayor of this incredible town and I look forward to all the conversations we will have and the accomplishments we will share in 2020.

As you may have heard, Middletown recently acquired property in Campbell’s Junction located at 37-45 Leonardville Road to be utilized as affordable housing units for income-eligible veterans. The prospect of turning a long neglected and blighted property into a vibrant part of the Junction is a win for the community and a much-deserved thank you to the men and women who have honorably served our Nation.

Another exciting endeavor Middletown launched just before the holiday season was purchasing and implementing our Styrofoam recycling machine. We are the first municipality in New Jersey to do this and we are currently accepting clean Styrofoam packaging materials at collection sites located at the Middletown Recycling Center (52 Kanes Lane) and the Middletown Train Station. Our ability to remove this pollutant from our trash stream and reuse it is an environmental and taxpayer victory. Visit www.middletownnj.org/styrofoam to learn more recycling Styrofoam in Middletown. Check out the video below about our Styrofoam recycling efforts.

The Township Committee kicked off its 2020 “Made in Middletown” small business campaign at the Greene Street Joinery located in Port Monmouth. This new custom furniture joinery is building beautiful works of art with an environmentally-friendly mission to plant trees to aid in the restoration of America’s forests.

In January, Middletown launched our new emergency notification system, Nixle. This system allows our residents to easily opt-in for traffic and severe weather alerts via text or email. To register for Middletown-specific alerts, text MiddletownNJ (no spaces) to 888-777 from your cell phone or visit www.middletownnj.org/nixle.

You also may have already noticed our new “Welcome to Middletown” signs popping up around town. Keep an eye out for them as they are installed along our highways!

We will be bringing back our Mobile Town Hall events starting this month. Our first will be taking place on Thursday, February 20th at Lincroft Fire Company, located at 601 Newman Springs Road, from 6-8 PM. These events will be held in different neighborhoods to provide residents with an opportunity to meet with me as well as other members of the Township Committee, ask questions of our Township employees, register for events and take care of certain Town Hall business closer to home. Visit www.middletownnj.org/mobiletownhall for additional information and updates.

At our next Township Committee meeting on Tuesday, February 18th at 7 PM in the Court Room at Town Hall (1 Kings Highway), we will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. We will be joined by our County Clerk Christine Hanlon, female elected officials in Monmouth County as well as some young ladies who have recently done amazing things in our community. Hope to see you there!
