MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ:  Currently, it's a cluster, as officials report that about 550,000 outages remain throughout the state from all electric providers, down from 977,000 yesterday. One of the providers; Jersey Central Power & Light is now estimating "power will be restored to most of their customers before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11." Does that also mean some after the 11th, or does that mean all restored before the 11th, with most in the days leading up to then?

TAPinto HCN spoke to a local government official on Thursday about what the timeframes really mean. Based on the discussion, the likely return to power is much earlier. In fact, in one Holmdel neighborhood, the actual time of power restoration is 11:30PM Friday, August 7th and not the 11th. So, the August 11th date may simply be managing expectations. "Generally, the more homes a 'quarantined' or open circuit service, the faster the resolution. All things being equal, a circuit that services 1500 may be resolved faster than one that serves 700. A hazard responder would visit the area, validate the issue and place the circuit in the queue for a dispatch to repair." The official stated.

On its Facebook page in a post made at about 6:30 p.m. yesterday, August 5, the company said an additional 1,300 workers will be arriving today from out of state, joining nearly 4,000 workers already engaged in the restoration effort. These workers will be based out of one of five staging sites located near the hardest hit areas, it continued, although those locations were not identified.

“When line crews are assigned each outage order, the restoration time will be updated to reflect when repairs at that location will be completed,” the post continued. “We understand this is an incredibly difficult time. Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding and support for our crews.”

Tropical Storm Isaias careened across New Jersey on August 4 with soaking rains and wind gusts nearing 75 mph. It toppled trees, knocked down poles, snapped lines and affected about 1.4 million residents — just a shade below the 1.7 million that were left without power when Sandy hit the Garden State in 2012. In a short window of time, a lot of damage was reported.

The town has opened up a cooling, charging and water station at the township library. If you are in need of a place to charge your cell phone or a place to cool off please come to the library. There will also be a water source available to fill any water containers for animal and bathroom needs. Please bring your own containers to carry the water as we can not supply them. We also can not supply cords for your phone charger so please bring your own. The library will be open from 9am - 430pm. 

Each Fire Department has also opened up a charging station as well as an area for residents to fill water containers. Again we are unable to provide containers for water or phone chargers so please bring your own.

Middletown Township Opens Charging Stations for Residents

Middletown Township has charging stations for residents in the Court Room at Town Hall (1 Kings Highway) and at the Middletown Senior Center (900 Leonardville Road) from 10:00 AM- 8:00 PM. Residents are welcome to charge their phones and other electronic devices at these locations. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we ask that you wear a face mask and adhere to the following guidelines: 

Social distancing (6+ feet apart) is required
Temperature check will be required at the door
Residents will be monitored for symptoms while at the charging station
Residents will be asked if they have been tested positive for COVID-19
Residents who are under a fourteen-day quarantine will not be admitted

From Holmdel Township:"Our offices have been in contact with JCP&L and we have expressed our deep displeasure with their recovery efforts thus far.  They have informed us that there will be several Holmdel customers that will have power restored in the next 24 hours, but gave no indication of which customers will be restored.  Know that we will continue to put pressure on the power company to improve their response.  In the meantime, if you have any questions or if we can be of assistance, please call 732-946-2820.Also as a reminder, our cooling and charging station at the Community Center will be open from 10am-8pm until power is restored."
