Happy Fathers Day!

HOLMDEL, NJ - For the fifth year in a row, dads and their daughters joined together for the 2019 Father/Daughter Campout. With clear skies and Father's Day on the way, Friday night was one to remember.

They were very excited for a fun night under the stars at the beautiful Bayonet Farm. The farm, located at 41 Middletown Road in Holmdel, was donated to the township many years ago by Laura Harding.

The group started setting up after 4pm. Many were veteran campers who had been at the event before with their little ones but just as many were new and spent some key moments on amazon.com the week before to get the gear they needed.

Some had traditional tents that required a steady hand and more than a little patience. Others took the pop and play route and brought tents that set up in a about a minute or two. When the setup was complete, everyone was able to gather around various fire pits and have fun.

Dads and their daughters enjoyed a bbq dinner catered by Fiorentinos that included hot dogs, hamburgers, marinated grilled chicken, italian sausage, pulled pork, peppers and onions, corn on the cob, homemade baked beans, macaroni salad, potato salad, coleslaw, and fresh watermelon. It was quite a feast on tables with old style checkered tablecloths and plenty of water to go around.

There were many activities during the evening including:

Arrow Dodgeball provided by Fireball Mountain

Tent Decorating Contest with prizes given out for best-decorated tents!

Old-Fashioned Games

S'mores over the Campfire

Ice Cream Sundaes

And a supervised late night  stroll through the woods

The highlight of the evening was when the dads and their daughters gathered around in a circle. One by one, the girls each had a chance to describe why they loved their dad. It was an enlightening and heartwarming moment and brought all the guests together in the spirit of fatherhood and sharing important moments with their children.

They even had a continental breakfast on Saturday with bagels, croissants, pastries, muffins, juice and coffee.

According to Recreation Director Bob Ward, the 'thank you' for such a great event went to Lori and Alison from the Holmdel Recreation Department who planned the entire event. You can find more events at the township website.
