HOLMDEL, NJ: The world is currently fighting a “war with an invisible enemy,” says President Donald Trump. Covid-19 is currently responsible for thousands of deaths all around the world. Every day we are trying our best to stay out of risk by practicing social-distancing and staying home. However, some people are at risk every day and don’t have that option. Health care workers risk their lives every day to save the lives of others. Every day they face the hardship of distancing from their family, treating COVID-19 patients, and so much more. It can be self-rewarding to sit down and take a moment to thank our heroes for all they have sacrificed for us. This was easy for my 8-year-old cousin Joia and her friend Ava, also 8. These two compassionate best friends decided to start a charity for our health care heroes called Bracelets For Heroes. Each bracelet is carefully handmade and many include inspirational messages like Love and Hope, to inspire whoever is wearing it.

"We are a business that doesn’t take the money for ourselves.  We sell the bracelets and donate all the money to doctors and nurses to thank them for protecting us and saving lives,” Joia expressed. Ava, Joia, and I, have founded this non-profit charity in order to show our appreciation towards the health care workers. The entire working team includes my older sister Ariana LaRosa, Joia’s mother, my Aunt Danielle, Joia’s older sister, my cousin Gemma, and Ava’s mother, Brooke and myself. Together, we have made over $300 so far, and are looking forward to all the new customers we will get!

We found NYC Health + Hospitals to be the perfect place to donate our money to because NYC has been hit the hardest by this pandemic. They started a donation to help and support their healthcare workers by providing them with meals, hotel expenses, laundry services, groceries for their families, and more. All the money we make with Bracelets For Heroes, will be donated directly to NYC Health and Hospitals.

In order to take a look at our handmade bracelets, you can go to our Instagram page, @braceletsforheroes. To make a purchase, you can direct message us the bracelet you wish to purchase with your wrist size and address. We will then reply to you with a price! You can also select different colors or get a personal name or short message. If you do not have an Instagram account, you can email us at, and we will send you some of our favorite bracelets to choose from! For payment, once you have purchased a bracelet, we will email or direct message you back with the Venmo information. Our bracelets are anywhere between $5 to $10, but extra donations are greatly appreciated!

We would like you to help us help our health heroes!
