NEW JERSEY: New Jersey confirms first Coronavirus death.
According to State health officials, a 69-year-old man from Bergen County died from the novel Coronavirus and the number of positive cases increased to 15.
According to a statement on Tuesday, “We are sad to report the first death in a case of COVID-19 in New Jersey...Our prayers are with the family during this difficult time. We remain vigilant to doing all we can — across all levels of government — to protect the people of New Jersey.”
Officials said that the 69-year-old man had pre-existing health conditions that included diabetes, hypertension, gastro-intestinal bleeding and emphysema.
After treatment with antibiotics and tamiflu, his condition did not improve, and he was admitted to Hackensack University Medical Center on March 6.
Though the man had no history of international travel, he travelled back and forth to New York regularly, officials said.
