MIDDLETOWN, NJ: The Middletown Township Department of Health and Social Services is currently investigating a cluster of approximately 13 reported COVID-19 cases. The 13 individuals all have a common connection to the Middletown Sports Complex and Ice World facility located at 214 Harmony Road.
The initial investigation has identified that the onset of COVID 19 symptoms began on September 3. The Sports Complex management has been working directly with the Health Department to identify anyone who may have been in the facility since that time. The facility maintains that they abide by all safety and cleaning guidelines relative to the pandemic and have a comprehensive cleaning procedure. If anyone was in the sports complex and thinks that she or he is presenting any symptoms of COVID-19, see your doctor to be tested ASAP. See COVID -19 symptoms here.
According to a statement online, the Township of Middletown would like to advise anyone who was in the facility to get tested for COVID-19 as a safety precaution. This is not Middletown's first cluster, as previous reports of teen house parties in the last couple of months have shown numbers of teens testing positive for COVID-19.
Per the Governor’s Executive Order No. 149, contact sports that are considered “medium risk” and “high risk” are prohibited indoors at this time. For additional information, please read the NJ Department of Health’s Guidance for Sports Activities. After discussions with the Health Director, Middletown Sports Complex Management may close the facility for up to 14 days to allow for further contact tracing, notifications, and deep cleaning in an effort to break the chain of infection.
The Health Department is conducting contact tracing in an attempt to better track and narrow down the extent of this cluster. It is imperative that everyone cooperate in this potentially serious matter as we continue to fight this virus.
