Hi All!

My name is Christine Cernera, the owner of Reclaim Your Health LLC. I am a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Certified Personal Trainer and Licensed RESTART Instructor.  My own health struggles and those of my son have led me to where I am today. Achieving good health is a journey and a skill-set that must be practiced to see the results but it is well worth the time and effort.

My goal is to empower individuals to reclaim their health through nutrition/lifestyle education and support. I want everyone to be gifted with good health that comes from being mindful of what they eat while at the same time enjoying life. The two are not mutually exclusive, I promise!

Making improvements to your health does not have to include life altering commitments that interfere with your daily activities.  Taking baby steps toward improved health is the way to go for most people. Diving in head first and announcing to everyone that you are going to cut all carbs, workout 5 days per week and start meditating every day is a sure way to lose sight of your goals. We all have good intentions, but for most of us slow and steady produces life-long habits.

Simple changes that you can make look something like the following:

  • Wake up 10 minutes earlier to gently stretch before you get out of bed - it’s a great way to wake up and warm up your muscles before jumping in the shower.

  • Drink 8 oz of water upon awakening (with a a squeeze of lemon, if desired) - your body is always using water for metabolic processes even when you are sleeping. Drinking water first thing in the morning is a nice way to thank your body for all of its work!

  • Eat mindfully for at least one meal per day. Most of us run out the door with a coffee and a bagel, eat while we are driving, eat at our desks while on a conference call, etc. Make it a point to sit, breathe deep, chew and relax while you are eating. Digestion requires a “rest and digest” state and your body will thank you with better digestion if you eat mindfully

  • Put your fork down between bites. This forces you to chew more thoroughly. Carbohydrate digestion starts in your mouth so the more you chew (ideally 20-30 times!), the more work you are saving for the rest of your digestive system.

  • If you sit at a desk most of the day, take a break to do 20 body weight squats in your office. I am sure you have heard that sitting is the new smoking, so get up and take a minute to do those 20 squats!

  • Not all changes are about diet and exercise. Take the time to appreciate what is around you, whether it is the sky when you are walking your dog, the trees that line the highway you take to work, the birds chirping in your backyard. Don’t let life pass you by without appreciating something every day. Gratitude enhances your life and reminds you that there is still beauty in this world.

  • Say good morning to someone you don’t know. Connecting with those around you, even in this small way can enhance your life greatly by preventing you from being locked up in your own thoughts (which sometimes are a little too serious, am I right??)

Even if you choose just one of the above to include in your day, it will lead to other positive changes. Take the time to be kind to yourself, your body and mind will thank you!

I look forward to supporting you during your journey to wellness!

Christine Cernera spent most of her adult life working in a corporate environment and as she approached the age of 50, she realized it was time for a change.  The health struggles of her younger son and herself led her to first becoming a personal trainer one month prior to turning 50.  She has always studied health and nutrition as a hobby and ultimately she followed her true passion and became certified as a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner in 2018.

Christine’s passion and philosophy is that nutrition and lifestyle education are key to creating and maintaining good health.  She believes that we are born with genetics that may predispose us to certain conditions, but in no way does that mean that we have to develop these conditions or diseases.  Her education is based on the foundation of digestion, as it is key to poor health or good health.  She works with clients by educating and supporting them to implement diet and lifestyle changes that support all of the body systems.  Digestion, blood sugar balance and whole, nutrient-dense foods are topics that are addressed with each client.

What differentiates a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner are the tools that are used to create bio-individual recommendations for one-on-one clients.  A health history, the completion of an online symptom assessment and analysis, as well as a food journal evaluation are some of these tools.  A Functional Clinical Assessment will be performed to determine your body’s nutritional priorities and Lingual-Neuro Testing to determine appropriate supplemental support.  You will be provided with a customized recommendation for nutrition, lifestyle and supplement protocols.

Since there is no such thing as a one size fits all approach to nutrition, or any other aspect of health, Christine takes a client’s lifestyle into account when creating recommendations.  She also addresses sleep hygiene, relaxation, movement and play as part of the health puzzle.

Christine also offers an educational/support group called RESTART that takes place at Active Healing Center in Tinton Falls, NJ.  RESTART is a 5-week program that meets once per week where participants learn how their body responds to the foods they eat while learning important nutrition topics and experience a guided 3-week sugar detox with your group.  There is a cookbook and a food journal included as well as a private Facebook group where Christine posts recipes, videos, articles and much more.  RESTART is the solution to reducing inflammation in your body, losing weight and learning about what foods work for you.

Whatever your health concern is; weight loss, autoimmune disease, diabetes, pre-diabetes or gut health, Christine can help you achieve your goal through education and support.
