Holmdel, NJ  - In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, VNA Health Group’s Visiting Physician Services team is now offering Telehealth visits in addition to making house calls to older, homebound patients. According to Alex Binder, VP and Practice Manager, “We remain committed to ensuring our patients continue to get the essential care they need while keeping our clinicians and patients safe during these unsettling times.”

In the world of the internet and smart devices, Telehealth has developed into a valuable, integrated service used by primary care physicians, hospitals and other healthcare facilities. These virtual visits, which are covered by Medicare, provide easy access to physicians who can assess symptoms, diagnose and treat for more simple and less serious ailments.

Through Telehealth, Visiting Physician can conduct follow up visits, manage chronic conditions and provide remote post-hospitalization care by using HIPAA compliant video-conferencing tools such as a Smart phone or laptop. Dr. Sara Leonard, Medical Director for Visiting Physician Services, comments, “Adding telemedicine to our house call services was a natural and necessary fit given the high level of fear and anxiety right now. Being able to connect with our patients face to face through video is an alternative way for us to follow up and provide care in between our in-person visits. We are here to support our patients in any way possible during this difficult time and are still continuing to make house calls as well.”

House calls still remain the core service and mission of Visiting Physician.  Dr. Leonard adds, “Being able to see patients in their own environment offers insight into key social and environmental factors that enable us to provide a greater scope of care. The result is improved patient outcomes and reduced hospital admissions. Since people want to stay in the comfort of their home as they get older, house calls can help meet that need.”
