Vienna's mommy, brother and sister prepare for Saturday's Bench Dedication. They made a sibling hand print mold in the cement. Vienna's hand print was recreated using a mold made from her last hand print she made while creating a craft for her daddy.

HOLMDEL, NJ: Dr. Denise Wunderler, her husband, Dr. Michael Savino and their three children moved to Holmdel nearly three and a half years ago. The family next month will be moving out of NJ, re-locating to Hershey, PA, where they, according to Wunderler, are "looking to make a fresh start". Unbelievably and tragically, they will be leaving Holmdel with two children, instead of three.  Their youngest child, Vienna Carly Savino was only 2.8 years old when she fell asleep while watching TV at home, in Holmdel, on the 12th of November, 2017. Vienna never woke up, her death was categorized as (Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood) SUDC.

SUDC is the category of death designated in kids 1-18 years old, when there’s no explanation after a thorough investigation. Vienna’s genetic studies did not reveal a cause of death. Shockingly, SUDC is scarcely known in the medical community or in general. Vienna's parents, Dr. Denise Wunderler and Dr. Michael Savino are working tirelessly to change that. They are advocating for SUDC awareness, research and change.  Wunderler, DO, FAOASM, founded Team Vienna 4 SUDC Awareness Inc. and co-founded The SUDC Coalition. Wunderler commented to TAPinto,  "As long as I live I will never stop searching for the reason that our sweet Vienna died. This should never happen to another family again. We miss her so much every day."

This Saturday celebrates Vienna in more ways than one. It is the 4th Annual Vienna’s Day of International SUDC Awareness. In addition, there will be a very special bench dedication to Vienna, at Cross Farm Park. The community is invited to gather to support the family at the site of the bench, located between the splash pad and the playground, near the large parking lot at Cross Farm Park, 10 Long Bridge Road, Holmdel. The memorial bench dedication will be at 2pm, Saturday, May 15, and will be a great opportunity for the community to support the family.

On Tuesday, Wunderler and her two children participated in making a mold of the 3 siblings' hand prints in cement to embed in the ground near the bench, this coming weekend. Wunderler held a picture of Vienna, wearing her green cat ear headband, smiling adorably, holding a sign messaging, "I Love You."  Wunderler also held onto the mold of her daughter Vienna's hand print.

Denise was able to have Vienna's hand print recreated by a friend at Jenkins Machine Shop in Bethlehem, PA. Wunderler commented to TAPinto, "Two days before Vienna died she made a craft for her Daddy, an Army Veteran, for Veteran's Day. The craft included Vienna's hand print. I called Jenkins Machine Shop last week and asked them if they could make a mold of her hand print, and unbelievably they said, 'yes, we think we can do that!' and here we are with a mold of little Vienna's hand."

Above photo is the craft that Vienna made for her Daddy for Veteran's Day, 2 days before her sudden death. Army Veteran Dr. Mike Savino is pictured below as an active duty Army officer in 2010 on his deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The hand print mold pictured below was created by Jenkins Machine Shop. The mold is a replica of Vienna's hand print taken from the craft she made her Daddy for Veteran's Day.

" I’m holding her hand again, but I never thought it would be in this way. I’m very thankful for all these types of amazing gestures and remembrances, but we just want her back so we don’t have to do any of this...." Vienna's mommy; Denise Wunderler.

Wunderler commented to TAPinto, "The Township of Holmdel has been so supportive with the memorial bench. All of this was made possible by Holmdel PBA #239's donation. We are so thankful to the first responders, our Police and First Aid who did everything they could to try to revive Vienna, and have been so caring and supportive. The hardest part about leaving NJ next month will be leaving the wonderful community of people here. We will truly miss our friends here. It is truly bittersweet as this will always be the place where our precious Vienna tragically died, and at the same time, it is where she lived the last couple months of her life. We will be back to visit our friends and to have an annual event for Vienna. I can't thank the Department of Public Works enough and Allison Gibney from the Township. She has gone above and beyond. The outpouring of support and friendship showed to us in Holmdel is incredible and we will always be thankful for that. "

Since Team Vienna became a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2019, there have been many events and fundraisers to support the mission of SUDC awareness, education and research support. The main annual event is this Saturday!
