MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ: On June 15th, the Middletown Township Fire Department held its Fire Academy graduation ceremony at Thompson Middle School.  Twenty-three individuals from Middletown and surrounding towns went through the 20-week training, and the MTFD added 14 new firefighters to their all-volunteer department.

Mayor Tony Perry and Fire Chief Steven Schweizer welcomed the hundreds of family members, friends and fellow firefighters who attended the event. They, along with Ex-Fire Chief and Committeeman Rick Hibell and Committeewoman Pat Snell, praised the graduates for their commitment to serving and protecting our community.

Earlier in the day, the trainees experienced their final "bringing it all together" drill at the Fire Academy. The drill was a culmination of everything the graduates learned in their training and included a smokehouse, car fire and a simulated structure fire.
