HOLMDEL, NJ - Condolences are streaming in for the motor vehicle accident that took the life of Margaret Cerria, 84, and injured her husband, former Woodbridge Mayor Philip Cerria, 85. They reside in Lakewood.

The fatal motor vehicle accident occurred with a car reportedly flipped on the Garden State Parkway northbound mile marker 115.3.

The crash occurred around 3:30PM with traffic backed up for miles.

NJ State Police on scene reported CPR in progress on one occupant. Margaret Cerria died at the scene and Paul Cerria was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center. 

 In a statement Saturday, New Jersey Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, D-Middlesex,  said: “It is with heavy hearts that my family and I offer our condolences to the former mayor of Woodbridge, Philip Cerria and his family on the tremendous loss of his wife in a tragic accident on Friday. Our sincerest sympathies and heartfelt prayers for a rapid recovery are with you at this difficult time.”

Philip Cerria served as mayor of Woodbridge from 1984 to 1987, according to the Woodbridge website.
