HOLMDEL, NJ: Joey Hammer, a junior at Holmdel High School and a varsity lacrosse and football player has a favorite hobby: Giving back. In his free time Hammer enjoys volunteering for various local charitable organizations.

"I love to volunteer with the Church of St. Catharine’s Youth Group in Holmdel, where I serve on the board. During the pandemic, it even became more difficult for those who are less fortunate. I asked our youth group leader if we could help St. Vincent De Paul with their food collections, and she supported the idea. It became a real community effort with our entire youth group, neighbors, family and friends, including the Cedar Village neighborhood. We collected enough food to feed 55 families, and we also received over $1,400 in donations. That money, along with 2 minivans of food was able to fill St. Vincent De Paul’s entire pantry, that had been depleted due to the extra demand during COVID-19. The generosity of our local community to help those in need was amazing." commented Hammer.

Hammer personally delivered 165 letters requesting food donations and received multiple thank you notes from local seniors who were happy to participate in the food collection.  Hammer also volunteers at the local soup kitchen in Keyport, with his grandmother Fran Manning, and other Church of Saint Catharine families.
