MILLBURN, NJ – Jazz musicians refer to the towns they play as an “apple.” That’s how New York City got the moniker as “The Big Apple,” since playing in Manhattan is as big as it gets.

Under the direction of Millburn music teachers Adrienne Blossey, Brian Fleming, Gregory Mulford and Matthew Spatz, Millburn’s middle and high school students played to a packed theater at Millburn High School. Bands included the Middle School Jazz Band, Wednesday Jazz Band and the Thursday Jazz Band. The concert appropriately happened during April’s Jazz Appreciation Month.

Several members of the band are also members of the New Jersey All-State Jazz Ensemble like MHS senior saxophonist Albert Kuo, MHS senior saxophonist Jonathan Rosen and MHS percussionist Adam Wacks. NJ All-State Regional High School Ensemble saxophonist Yicong Wu played with the Wednesday Jazz Band. Middle school student and trumpet player Ethan Yong also plays with the Junior High School Jazz Ensemble. These jazz ensembles represent the best jazz musicians in the State and Region.
