NEWARK, NJ – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the murder of Javon Johnson, 29, of Newark.
Yesterday, Newark Police were summons to a home in the 400 block of Avon Avenue by family members. When they arrived, they discovered the body of Johnson who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police took Erv-Wakine Pryor, 39, of Newark into custody and charged him with the murder of Johnson. The two are related. In addition to murder, Pryor is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
