WESTFIELD, NJ - The Millburn 12U baseball team completed a sweep of the pool play portion of the District 12 Tournament with a 7-2 victory over Summit Saturday morning.
Tyler Neary's two-run single up the middle in the bottom of the fourth inning capped the scoring and gave the Millers a 7-1 lead. Winning pitcher David Mischel turned in a strong effort for Millburn.
Defensively, the Millers' airtight efforts made it tough for Summit to generate any rallies, with shortstop Matt Weiner turning in standout plays at shortstop and the rest of the fielders also playing at the top of their game.
Millburn had defeated Chatham, 8-3, on Friday night. Last week, the Millers knocked off Scotch Plains-Fanwood and Westfield-Blue. Millburn's 4-0 record places it atop the field heading into the single-elimination round. Millburn has earned a bye and will play Thursday at Gumbert Park in Westfield against an opponent to be determined.
