NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Millburn High School boys baseball team lost to South Plainfield High School 3-1 at North Brunswick Community Park Saturday afternoon. South Plainfield rolled with a solid pitching performance, and two clutch plays from their catcher.
Millburn started strong with a triple on the second pitch of the contest by Peter Gula, and a RBI base hit up the middle two batters later by Schiekofer. South Plainfield didn't let Millburn out of the first without tying it up.
Millburn threatened to score in the top of the third after Schiekofer tripled, but Shine forced the next hitter to ground out to second to end the inning. South Plainfield took the lead in the bottom of the fourth and Millburn was unable to recover.
The game was part of the Autism Awareness Baseball Challenge that attracted 40 teams from across the state over the weekend despite the weather. Both teams sported special blue-shaded jerseys.
