MAPLEWOOD, NJ - An unidentified body was found in the brook behind Maplewood Memorial Library early this morning.
The police taped off a wide area around the library, including part of Memorial Park behind and next to the library. Traffic cones blocked access to the library parking lot. The body was removed by officials at approximately 11:30 a.m., and the police tape was then removed making all areas accessible again.
The Maplewood Memorial Library was closed due to the police activity this morning, and had re-opened as of 12:30 p.m.
According to a statement from Captain Dawn Williams of the Maplewood Police, "at approximately 8:17 a.m. the Maplewood Police Department received a report of a possible deceased person in the brook behind the Maplewood Library on Baker Street. Officers responded to the location and confirmed the condition."
The statement from Captain Williams identified the deceased as a 61-year-old Caucasian male and that "investigators from the Essex County Medical Examiner's Office responded and determined the death was not suspicious and will conduct a further investigation into the cause."
There is no further information from the Maplewood police at this time, and they are currently working to notify the deceased net of kin.
