LIVINGSTON, NJ - More than 70 people attended the first-ever Meadowbrook Country Day Camp Pizza Tour Road Trip event at Anthony Franco's Pizzeria in Livingston on Wednesday night.
Campers new and old dined on pizza, learned about camp and reminisced about Meadowbrook Day Camp owners George Stein and Dan Millman.
A dad to a first-time Meadowbrook camper said he had heard about the event on social media.
"The power of Facebook," he said. "We will be first-time campers. We live in town and have friends who send their children to Meadowbrook, so we knew tonight would be fun.”
Millman and Stein spent the evening swapping camp stories, high fives and taking pictures and videos with those in attendance.
"It rejuvenates us,” said Millman. “I remember the excitement of seeing camp friends during the school year, and seeing the kids' faces was just so awesome.”
"We are so excited that families took the time to come out and hang with us," said Stein. "We look forward to seeing more faces at our future Pizza Tour Road Trip stops."
Meadowbrook's next Pizza Road Trip stop will be at Veneto Pizza in Basking Ridge on Jan. 10, from 5-7 p.m. Those interested are asked to RSVP to email@example.com.
In the meantime, prospective camp families and existing campers are encouraged to check out Meadowbrook's social media pages: FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, and TWITTER for announcements, photos and the Friday Video series of the staff having fun.
Meadowbrook Country Day Camp is an American Camping Association (ACA)-accredited day camp located on a 50-acre wooded campus in Long Valley, NJ, just outside of Chester. Meadowbrook’s day camp program serves children ages three-15, with a travel program for those entering grades 7, 8 and 9.
Each week of the summer has a different theme at Meadowbrook. There are special events, carnivals, shows and unique activities associated with each weekly theme, and the themes change each and every year.
Throughout the days, many typical camp activities also take place too, such as: swim instruction based on the Red Cross Program and free swim in a 9,000-square-foot pool complex with three heated pools, archery, tennis, basketball, softball, soccer, cooking, dance, lacrosse, flag football, nature, fishing, newcomb, challenge courses, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boats and bumper boats on a private lake, gymnastics, various arts and crafts activities, hockey and more. There are also some unusual activities like boards and bikes, ultimate frisbee, Tapu-aie, GaGa, handball, speedball, chocolate, arcade, bonfire cooking, Earth Wind and Fire, rocketry and more.
In addition, Meadowbrook serves kid-friendly, healthy lunches every day and offers snacks and water throughout the day. The 50-acre wooded facility and tented areas offer plenty of shade to keep campers cool during the hot summer days, according to Millman.
The camp provides door-to-door transportation on air-conditioned mini buses to Morris County and parts of Essex, Union, Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon, Middlesex, and Somerset counties.
Meadowbrook also offers extended hours from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Also, all tips are included in tuition, so there are no extra costs later on.
