According to numerous news reports, corruption and bribery charges against U.S. Senator Bob Menendez are being dropped by the Justice Department. Senator Menendez released the following statement through his Communications Director, Tricia Enright:

“From the very beginning, I never wavered in my innocence and my belief that justice would prevail. I am grateful that the Department of Justice has taken the time to reevaluate its case and come to the appropriate conclusion. I have devoted my life to serving the people of New Jersey, and am forever thankful for all who have stood by me. No matter the challenges ahead, I will never stop fighting for New Jersey and the values we share. I am thankful that God has answered my prayers."

First indicted in 2015, the case against Senator Menendez ended in a mistrial last year when federal prosecutors failed to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The Justice Department announced weeks ago that it would seek to retry the case, however today's court filing means the end of a long legal drama for Senator Menendez and the state.
