Congressman Leonard Lance visits Moms Helping Moms Foundation in honor of Diaper Need Awareness Week

On Friday, September 29th, Congressman Leonard Lance of New Jersey’s 7th District toured Moms Helping Moms Foundation (MHMF) in honor of Diaper Need Awareness Week to discuss the extent of diaper need in New Jersey, effective strategies to mitigate diaper need, and legislation to further propel the work of diaper banks across the country.

Congressman Lance presented a commendation to Moms Helping Moms Foundation for their dedication and commitment to diaper need awareness. Congressman Lance remarked, “Moms Helping Moms Foundation fills an important need in our community. Diapers are a bipartisan issue and I commend Moms Helping Moms for all the work they do.”

Bridget Cutler, Executive Director of Moms Helping Moms Foundation, stressed the importance of the visit, “Diapers impact the physical, emotional, and economic health and well-being of families. It is imperative that our local, state and federal policymakers are aware of the significance of diaper need and ways they can support efforts to ensure that everyone has an adequate supply of diapers.”

Moms Helping Moms Foundation is a member of the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN), and is working in conjunction with NDBN and other diaper banks around the country to educate policymakers about diaper need and encourage co-sponsorship on key diaper need legislation:

  • Resolution H. 490 – a resolution supporting the goals and ideals of "National Diaper Need Awareness Week"; and
  • HR 1143 – The Hygiene Assistance for Families of Infants and Toddlers Act of 2017 – a bill that provides $25 million to create demonstration diaper distribution programs, test ideas on how best to reach families in need, and leverage diapers to improve the effectiveness and reach of family support programs.
