"Cookies for Kids’ Cancer" Kicks Off Fundraising Campaign

SHORT HILLS, NJ – Garden State Good Cookies, the local chapter of Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, is kicking off its 2014 fundraising campaign with a host of activities and opportunities for kids and grownups to get involved and make a difference in their communities. In addition to bake sales at each of the five Millburn/Short Hills elementary schools and several preschool programs, this year’s campaign will include fundraisers geared toward adults.

The first adult event will be a Ladies’ Night Out held on April 3, 2014. The event will feature speaker Jen Meister, Founder of Vita Organic Foods, a cooking demonstration by chef Michelle Retik, and a chance to shop Deux Amies (EU) products. Guests will also enjoy snacks and beverages and a chance to win coveted raffle prizes. The event will be held at the home of Short Hills residents Etai and Saritte Harel.

According to Saritte Harel, “The Millburn/Short Hills annual Ladies’ Night Out is always such a fun event for girlfriends to get together and support local businesses. We wanted to recreate the spirit of Ladies’ Night Out in support of a wonderful charity that has done so much already to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research. Thanks to the generous support of several local businesses, we have planned a fantastic night for our guests. 100% of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer.”

Garden State Good Cookies has been hosting cookie bake sales at schools throughout Millburn and Short Hills, as well as an annual Family Fun Day at Taylor Park, since 2011. To date, the organization has raised $30,000 to fund research for safer, more effective treatments for pediatric cancer. Their instantly recognizable lawn signs, “Kids Helping Kids,” will start popping up again once the weather warms up. They serve not only as a reminder of the importance of raising funds for pediatric cancer research, but also of the generosity of the community.

“By engaging children in baking playgroups, hosting bake sales on their front lawns and at their schools, the children are making a difference in the lives of others and learning so many positive life lessons” suggests Stacey Tavel, local pediatrician at Summit Medical Group and co-founder of the Millburn/Short Hills Cookies for Kids’ Cancer fundraising movement. “We are looking forward to creating even more opportunities for local residents, both younger and older, to get involved with this important cause.”

Ladies’ Night Out will be held on Thursday, April 3, at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at for $30. Tickets can also be purchased at the door on the night of the event for $40. RSVPs are requested by April 1.

Garden State Good Cookies’ mission is to support Cookies for Kids' Cancer, a national 501(c)(3) organization, in its commitment to raise funds for research to develop new, improved treatments for pediatric cancer, the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. We provide inspiration and support for individuals, businesses and organizations to raise funds by hosting local events.
