ROCKTOBERFEST is back and bigger and better than ever! The Education Foundation of Millburn/Short Hills’ 3rd annual music festival will be held on Saturday, September 29 starting at 10 a.m. in Taylor Park in Millburn. There will be many new offerings this year, including a Fitness Zone with free fitness classes run by local businesses and an acoustic music tent in addition to our main stage performances. Local retail businesses will also have booth selling merchandise. The festival is open to the public and will include something for everyone, highlighted by live music in the park until 7:30 p.m. and more bands across the street at our outdoor space at 75 Main Street from 7:00-10:30 p.m.
The fun-filled community event will kick off at 10 a.m. with a stretching class by Motion Fitness and and a Rock and Roll Kids Concert by Songs for Seeds. More fitness classes, including yoga, barre, kickboxing, pilates and interval training classes will be offered all day long. The Fun Run for kids 10 and under will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed at 11 a.m. by the run for those 11 and over. The Arts & STEM Expo in the Bauer Center will open its door at 10 a.m. and will feature hands-on workshops by local businesses, such as Soulfege A Capella (singing workshop for grades K-12), First Floor Fairytales (musical theater workshop for grades 1-5), Music Together (music class for pre-school aged kids), New Jersey Youth Chorus (choir singing workshop for grades 3 and up). The Expo will also include activities by: The Girl Talk Millburn (hands on STEM activities for elementary aged kids), Farbrook School (arts and crafts), Millburn Institute of Technology (traditional Chinese Culture workshop), Music Therapy/So.i.Heard House of Music (music therapy for special needs students of all ages), Renaissance Art Studio (fine arts demonstration), So.I.Heard.Music (music production/songwriting/DJ activities), Christ Church Nursery School (fun with CCNS signature Play-Dough) and The Write Fit. The Expo will continue until 12:30 p.m.
The live music in the park will kick off at 11:15 a.m. on the main stage with Savannah Bell and Iya Champs, singing R&B music. Our extensive main stage line up includes: Powdered Elephants (electric alternative pop); The Undertakers, (rock); Soulfege, Millburn High School’s a cappella group; Marcaux (hip-hop/rap); Carolyn Miller (country); Toad and the Stooligans (hip-hop/funk/jazz); NEVRMIND (R&B); The Parkers, an alternative/electronic pop group featuring Milburn’s own, Parker-Lentz sisters; Spliff Santana (rap); Ethan Ross(rap); Autumn Jones (R&B);Balter Band (funk/rock/dance/jazz/R&B); Shruti Sen (R&B/jazz).
Performers at the acoustic tent will begin at 12 noon by a performance by Songs for Seeds. Other performers include: Fayona (singer/songwriter); Jake & Lewis; Powdered Elephants(electric alternative pop); Paolo & Matt(pop/R&B/hip-hop); Alexander Loverich (alternative rock); Jernee Mill (indie, alternative); Acoustic Mayhem (country/bluegrass/Americana); Mrs. Eller & the Fellers (country/rock/folk).
Food and beverages will be available for purchase the entire day from local restaurants. There will also be a beer and wine garden. Children will enjoy face painting, balloon animals, airbrush tattoos, inflatable rides, games, volleyball, photo booth and so much more all day long!
This year, as the sun sets, the party will continue with more live music at an outdoor space across the street at 75 Main Street. Toad and the Stooligans will begin playing at 7 p.m., followed by Cats Will Play, a rock/reggae/funk/blues band at 8 p.m. The Rudie Crew, a ska/reggae band will close out the day's performances when they play from 9:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Join us at Millburn's hottest spot for grown ups -- the cold beer and wine will still flow with the addition of cocktails. Tasty food will also be available for purchase.
