Elizabeth Man Sought in New York Bombing

ELIZABETH, NJ – FBI and ATF officers are seeking a 28-year-old Elizabeth resident, Ahmad Khan Rahami, in connection with the pipe bombing in New York. Police and FBI agents searched the address of a home on Elmora Avenue in Elizabeth that is linked to a person with a similar name. 

He has not been linked to the pipe bombs discovered in Seaside Park and Elizabeth.

Five pipe bombs were discovered in a backpack near the main Elizabeth train station on Broad Street by two men at approximately 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18. When they discovered there were wires attached, they reported it to police, officials said.

Elizabeth Police, Union County Bomb Squad, NJ Transit Police, Union County Police, State Police and the FBI were called in to investigate. At approximately 12:30 p.m., a robot set off one of the pipe bombs. No one was hurt.

Rahami is described as being of Afghan descent and could be armed and dangerous.

Northeast Corridor and New Jersey Coastline train service continues to be suspended in Elizabeth, according to officials.

Neiman Marcus personnel report a black male wearing a red hat, black winter coat, and tan backpack concealed 2 pairs of headphones valued at $498.00 in his backpack and left the store without making payment. The incident is under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.
