NUTLEY, NJ - The Essex County Prosecutor's office has deemed the Fathers Day weekend rollover of a Nutley fire department ladder truck to be an accident. The incident took place on Saturday June 17 as units were responding to a CO2 activation.

Katherine Carter of the Essex County Prosecutors Office told TAPinto Nutley " We did an investigation. The incident was deemed an accident. The matter is closed."

At approximately 9:45 p.m on Saturday June 17, Nutley firefighters were responding to a call of a carbon monoxide detector activation in a Nutley residence. The ladder truck struck the Chestnut Street bridge, hitting both the concrete walls and metal railings before coming to rest on its side.

The injuries could have been much worse, :"It is a Father's Day gift no one was killed." The fire fighters who were on the truck at the time were take to Saint Peter's Medical Center. Citing medical privacy rules the exact nature of the injuries was not disclosed.

The truck involved in the accident was in service in Nutley for about 20 years was due to replaced soon. The Board of Commissioners have been allocating funds for some time specifically to replace this particular truck. Funds were put into capital reserve for specific things like fire equipment so that the township is not burdened with coming up with the lump sum for a new vehicle. Te truck was also insured.
