CEDAR KNOLLS, NJ – Boy Scouts of America, Patriots’ Path Council today announced that George T. Barnard has been elected as its president, and began his term of office at the Council’s annual meeting held earlier this month. He succeeds Michael Poling, who had served as Council president since 2011.

Mr. Barnard is the president of MCM Mechanical Corp., based in Fairfield, New Jersey. His involvement in Scouting began in Pack and Troop 1 in Ridgefield Park, NJ, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1967.  He served his troop as assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster from 1970 to 1985, and became active again when his son Greg joined Pack 179, and then Troop 74 in Montville, where he earned his Eagle Scout Award in 2009.

In accepting the position, Mr. Barnard said, “I’m humbled to serve as president of Patriots' Path Council, following a long line of distinguished volunteer leaders. Through the efforts of our dedicated volunteers, advisors and staff members, we will continue to grow membership, expand diversity and build financial strength in order to deliver the best programs available to the youth we serve.”

George is currently active in the Council’s Fishawack District and has been recognized with the District Award of Merit. He is also a recipient of the Silver Beaver award, Scouting’s highest recognition for volunteer service at the Council level and has received the Vigil Honor from the Order of The Arrow.

In addition to Scouting, George is active with the ARC of Bergen and Passaic Counties annual Walk-A-Thon, and has also volunteered as a judge, for the last fifteen years, at the NJ Wheelchair Track and Field Regional meet.

He is also active in the Freemasons, where he served the Grand Lodge as District Deputy Grand Master for three years and is also president of the National Association of Masonic Scouters.

Council Scout Executive, Dennis J. Kohl noted that, “As an organization, we have been extremely fortunate over the past 3 decades to benefit from the leadership skills, dedication and enthusiasm of the outstanding individuals who have served as Council president. George continues our tradition of recruiting volunteers for this top position who best exemplify the lifetime values of service and loyalty that Scouting delivers.”
