MILLBURN, NJ - The Millburn girls basketball team will face second-seeded University High School (16-4) in the quarterfinal round of the Essex County Tournament Saturday at 1 p.m. in Newark.
Millburn (15-5), seeded seventh is coming off a 48-36 regular-season loss Thursday to Bloomfield, the Millers' second defeat at the paws of the Bengals this winter. Leila Dean Stansberry led Millburn with 10 points in the loss.
The Millers defeated 10th-seeded Nutley, 59-38, in the ECT first round last Saturday. Kayla Wolf scored 15 points in that game. Millburn has won with a balanced attack. Forward Rachel Hubertus leads the team with 10.3 points per game, but Stansberry (10 ppg.) and Wolf (9.6) are right in the mix foe scoring leadership.
Wolf averages 4.0 assists per game and Hubertus has grabbed 8.7 rebounds per contest. Ally Langerndorff is second on the team in rebounds with 5.0 per contest.
