PERTH AMBOY, N.J. — Early Monday morning, while most students enjoyed a day off, the Millburn Millers Swim Team trekked down to Perth Amboy to compete in the Super Essex Conference Championships hosted by the Raritan Bay Area YMCA. Competing against 11 other teams, the Lady Millers turned in an impressive performance.
The eighth-seeded Millburn 200 Medley Relay (Livia Maguire, Clare Johnson, Devin Genderson, Katy Shepard) finished 6th (2:01.59), opening the scoring with 18 points. Senior, co-captain, Megan Balbo — Millburn’s high point winner (29) — dropped nearly two seconds to win the 200 Freestyle (1:58.67) earning County Champion crown for the second year in a row. Balbo remains undefeated in the 200 Freestyle on the season. Freshman, Genderson (2:08.71) came in 12th place in the 200 Free. Balbo went on to secure a Meet of Champions (MOC) slot (5:17.51) in the 500 Free, touching the wall in 2nd place.
Sophomore, Alyssa Levy swam hard to solidify 2nd place in the 200 IM (2:16.07) and 5th in 100 Butterfly (1:02.57), while Sophomore, Emily Segal came in 11th in the 200 IM (2:29.84). Sophomore, Ellie Dessart touched the pad in 57.12 to take 6th place in 100 Free. Maguire finished 11th in 500 Free (5:46.01) and 10th in 100 Back (1:06.48). Dessart, Segal, Levy, and Balbo dropped almost three seconds to finish 2nd and secure a MOC place in the 200 Free Relay (1:44.81). The same four came in 4th place in the 400 Free Relay. In the last individual event of the afternoon, Johnson pulled her way into 12th place in 100 Breast (1:16.35).
The Lady Millers scored 141 points for a 6th place finish overall.
